    Garden Micro Retreat

A compact single-volume structure sits discreetly within dense tropical planting, its shallow mono-pitched roof extending beyond the façade to create a shaded threshold. Vertical cladding and a recessed entry establish depth and proportion, while the interior is conceived as a distilled, efficient living chamber. The scale is intentionally modest, prioritising spatial clarity over excess, with landscape functioning as both boundary and privacy screen. Materials are selected for durability in humid conditions, balancing lightness with resilience. This is a conceptual study of small-footprint living adapted to a Jamaican garden context.

    Year: 2026
    Lead Designer: Jamaica Homes
    Type: Micro Residential Unit
Main Architectural Elements: Mono-pitched roof plane · Vertical external cladding · Recessed glazed entry · Compact structural frame · Integrated shaded forecourt

Crucial Location Factors: Positioned within low-density tropical landscaping, requiring consideration of drainage, root protection, and passive airflow. Orientation supports morning light capture while roof overhang mitigates peak afternoon heat.
    Category: Concept
    Best Use (Occupancy Classification): Homes
    Location: Negril, Jamaica

Energy Efficiency: Natural cross-ventilation · Deep roof overhang · Reduced conditioned floor area · High-performance insulated envelope
Design fitting function (build-to-suit): Garden guest suite or short-stay retreat

A measured exercise in scale where architecture yields quietly to landscape.
