KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Monday, December 1, ended trading at $161.05, down 15 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar closed at $115.08, barely up from $115.07, while the British pound ended at $212.70, down from its previous close of $214.04.
The Jamaican dollar strengthened against the US dollar and the pound and held steady against the Canadian dollar, opening December on a firmer footing.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
With rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa still under way across the western parishes, the cost of imported materials remains a daily concern for homeowners. A firmer Jamaican dollar trims the local price of US-priced lumber, zinc and cement slightly. For UK-based Jamaicans sending money for repairs or a property deposit, the lower pound rate means each transfer delivers somewhat less than it did a day earlier.
