KINGSTON, Jamaica — The United States (US) dollar on Tuesday, June 2, ended trading at $158.77, up 33 cents, according to the Bank of Jamaica’s daily foreign exchange trading summary.
The Canadian dollar rose to $115.51 from $114.47, and the British pound finished at $214.84, up from $211.34.
The Jamaican dollar weakened against all three major currencies, with a particularly steep decline of $3.50 against sterling.

What it means for property buyers and the diaspora
Overseas Jamaicans, particularly in Britain, got more value from money sent home for a down payment, surveyor’s fees or a construction milestone. Locally, a softer Jamaican dollar tends to feed through, over time, into higher prices for imported tiles, fixtures and building hardware, so contractors quoting on new projects may keep a closer eye on the rate.
