Psalm 2 pictures God laughing on His throne, and Proverbs 31 describes a woman who can laugh at the days to come. What would it take for our homes to laugh like that?
When the prayer for a home of your own is taking far too long, Galatians 6 points to an unexpected way to wait: keep sowing good into other people’s houses.
The children still play in the yard. The adults carry the bills, the repairs and the worry. A devotional on rejoicing always for the people who keep a household running.
Some homes are paid for, well furnished and strangely lifeless. A reflection on Amos 5:4 and John 10:10, and on what it takes for a household to truly live.
Some building projects last longer than our energy. A devotional on Galatians 6:9 for anyone worn down by a half-finished house, a long renovation or years of caring for a home and family.
In Haggai, God calls Zerubbabel His signet ring. Anyone trusted to act for a parent or an overseas relative on property matters knows how weighty it is to carry another’s seal.
Ephesians 2 speaks of the exceeding riches of God’s grace. For a family, a truly God-sized vision for the home may have less to do with size and more to do with what happens inside.
Broken doors, unpaid rent and a phone that no longer answers. When someone does real harm to your property, Romans 12 draws a line between seeking justice and seeking revenge.
Haggai spoke to people earning wages only to put them in a bag with holes. His call to “consider your ways” is a practical place to start changing household habits.
When exam results fall short and a young person stays home instead of leaving, the whole household has to adjust. A devotional on Romans 8:37 for families in that season.
